Valencia Apartments
Valencia Apartments occupies Valencia Court — four buildings in the Mission Revival style, designed by Rockford architect Jesse A. Barloga and built in 1927. Spanish mission arches and tile, brought to a residential street on the city's west side.
Barloga was prolific here; more than a hundred Rockford houses are attributed to him, along with two other Mission Revival apartment courts, the Villa Seville and the Eldorado. Valencia Court was built for people of moderate means, its rooms modest but its exterior deliberately ambitious — a Chicago-style apartment court on a Rockford budget.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009 and a contributing property in the Garrison–Coronado–Haskell Historic District, Valencia Court is also a locally designated Rockford landmark. Urban Equity Properties has restored it as apartments, keeping Barloga's exterior intact — the same courts, arches and tilework Rockford has known for nearly a century.
