Residences at Talcott

The Residences at Talcott occupy Rockford's first true office tower. The Talcott Building opened in 1927 at thirteen stories and 163 feet — the tallest building in Rockford at the time. It was built by Wait Talcott, grandson and namesake of the man who arrived in Rockford in 1854 and helped found the Manny Reaper Company, the enterprise that made Rockford a manufacturing city.

It housed Rockford's offices for most of the next century. Today the Talcott is a mixed-use landmark in the heart of downtown: the ground floor holds 13,000 square feet of retail and office space, floors 2 and 3 offer 15,000 square feet of renovated modern offices, and floors 4 through 12 are home to 63 luxury loft apartments. The entire 13th floor belongs to residents — a private lounge with a movie theater and shared kitchen, a state-of-the-art fitness center, and a rooftop deck with views across the city.

The Talcott Building is a contributing structure in the West Downtown Rockford Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.
