Nu-State Apartments
Nu-State Apartments occupies a four-story Church Street block built in 1951 by Max Liebling and opened as an Osco Drug — midcentury modern down to the fixtures. Osco stayed thirty-two years; much of the ground floor sat empty for decades after.
The building reopened in 2025 as thirty-five lofts over four storefronts, with Liebling's 1951 design followed rather than covered up — greens and oranges, terrazzo, period fixtures. City Center Market, an 8,000-square-foot grocery with a pharmacy inside, opened at street level that September.
