Midtown Lofts
401-413 7th St. Rockford, IL 61101
Midtown Lofts
Seventh Street was the commercial heart of Rockford's Swedish community — its shops, its community buildings, two of its three banks.
In 1897 this stretch was still open ground. The row went up in the years that followed.
Christmas week, 1919, this block was five storefronts deep. At 401, Geo. E. Hanson & Bro., trading under the line Sincere Personal Service. At 403, Mrs. Ida B. Nelson, gifts for women, girls and children. At 405, the Rockford Silk Shade Co., lamp shades made to order. At 407, Phil. Kellner & Co., jewelers — the biggest little jewelry store in town. At 409, Lundstrom & Peterson.
The street is now the Seventh Street Commercial Historic District, listed on the National Register in 2005. Urban Equity Properties has restored the building as lofts on every floor, the old storefronts included.
