CA Flats
327 W. Jefferson St. Rockford, IL 61101
CA Flats
CA Flats was designed by Jesse A. Barloga and built in 1927, just after the street outside was renamed from Peach to Jefferson — for the president, on the 150th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Three stories of tan brick with Indiana limestone trim and an arched entry at the corner.
It opened as an auto garage — Woodward Motor Company below, printers above: Clark Printing, then Ruppert-Dreher Type Setting and Wilson Hall Printing, who stayed through the 1970s. From 1950 the ground floor was a restaurant and tavern, Jack's or Better, for nearly thirty years.
A contributing building in the West Downtown Rockford Historic District, it now holds one- and two-bedroom lofts.
