Ralston Block Building

The Ralston Block holds the corner of First and Market — two stories of brick and concrete over a basement, built in 1910 and still carrying its name cut in stone.

t was John B. Ralston's building. In January 1921, he sold it for $35,000 cash to Willard A. Stapleton, treasurer of the Rockford Wholesale Grocery Company, whose warehouse stood two blocks west on North Water Street. Both men believed this corner would become the center of Rockford business. Its tenants that year were a garage, a wholesale drug company, and a pipe-setting firm.

Urban Equity Properties has restored the building, with retail at street level and our loft offices above.
